Sammendrag
The motives behind this study, financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is to increase our experience and knowledge of possible future Joint Implementation projects. The study demonstrates some opportunities for fuelswitching from diesel to biomass in the power generation sector in Brazilian Amazonia as abatement measures to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide, and indicate the potential for such fuel substitution. The main conclusion is that many fuelswitching projects in Amazonia are both economically and environmentally interesting and that they, if implemented, will benefit both the local environment through reduced pollution, and the global environment through reduced emissions of greenhouse gases.
